Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
In a horrifying case of civic negligence, a 45-year-old man named Sunil Kumar died after being buried alive under a load of drain sludge dumped by municipal workers in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred while Sunil, a vegetable vendor, was resting under a tree near his home after completing his day’s work.
Municipal employees, tasked with cleaning drains in the city, were transporting sludge in a trolley when they unloaded it at a dumping site — without noticing Sunil lying beneath the tree. He was completely buried under the heavy waste. Locals rushed to help, but by the time he was pulled out and taken to the hospital, he was declared dead on arrival.
Authorities have ordered an investigation into the incident, and officials have promised strict action against the contractor responsible for the workers. The tragedy has sparked outrage over the careless execution of civic duties and the lack of basic safety checks.
